Life Progress

A life progress widget shows how much of your year, month, week, or day has elapsed, visualized as a filling progress bar. WidgetCraft's Life Progress widget displays all four time units simultaneously — each with an elapsed label, a percentage, and a remaining label — and embeds in Notion, Obsidian, or any iframe-capable website.

WidgetCraft's Life Progress widget renders four stacked progress bars — Year, Month, Week, Day — each showing how far through that time unit you currently are. The Year bar is calculated against January 1 and December 31 of the current year. The Month bar spans the first and last day of the current month. The Week bar uses Monday as the start of the week, following ISO 8601 convention. The Day bar tracks midnight to midnight. Each bar shows elapsed time on the left (e.g. '112d elapsed'), the percentage in the bar itself, and remaining time on the right (e.g. '253d 14h left'). The widget updates every minute, so the percentages stay fresh without hammering the browser. Because it uses nothing but your device's local date and time, it works fully offline, requires no API keys, and works on any host that accepts an iframe. Embed it in an Obsidian daily note or a Notion dashboard as a quiet reminder of time's passage — or a motivator to close the gap on outstanding goals.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

What does the progress bar actually represent?

Each bar shows what fraction of that time unit has elapsed as of right now. A Year bar at 30% means roughly 110 of 365 days have passed in the current year.

Which time units does it show?

The widget always displays all four bars: Year, Month, Week, and Day. Individual bar toggling is not yet supported.

Does the week start on Sunday or Monday?

The week bar starts on Monday, following ISO 8601 convention.

Does it reset automatically?

Yes. Each bar resets automatically at the natural boundary — the Year bar resets on January 1, the Month bar on the first of each month, the Week bar on Monday at midnight, and the Day bar at midnight every day.

How often does the widget update?

The percentages refresh every 60 seconds. This is frequent enough to show meaningful movement during the day without straining the browser.

Does it use my timezone?

Yes. All calculations are done against the device's local date and time, so the bars reflect your timezone automatically with no configuration.

Can I use this as a year-progress tracker in Notion?

Yes — paste the embed URL into a Notion /embed block. The Year bar updates every minute and gives you a persistent at-a-glance sense of where you are in the current year.

Can I use this for shorter periods like a 14-day brew fermentation?

Yes — the progress widget accepts a custom range via URL params. We wrote a full use-case guide showing how to pair the Progress bar with the Countdown widget as a homebrew fermentation tracker: /use-cases/homebrew-tracker. The same pattern works for any fixed-duration project.
